Cooperation in Europe's Northern Periphery: Across the Generations

05 October 2018

Against a background of Brexit, refrom proposals and rapid change in the Arctic, the evolution and future development of the cooperation in the Northern Periphery and Arctic was the subject of a presentation by Irene McMaster to the annual conference of INTERREG Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme (NPA)in Inverness.

The presentation, which closed the conference on 20 September, looked back at the origins of the NPA Programme in Nordic-Scottish Cooperation highlighting the Programme's strong, distinct development role in the region, its capacity to adapt and respond to change, and the tangible results it delivers to communities in remote and sparsely populated areas.

Drawing on work being carried out by EPRC on the Programme’s impact evaluation, the presentation concluded by emphasising  Programme’s key role in Arctic regional development; its capacity to respond to new opportunities in the post 2020 period; and the strength and value of an on going relationship with partners Scottish and Northern Ireland post 2020.
