Presentation at EPRC on the regional impact of non-regional policies

02 May 2008

Marie Maceskova from the Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague is currently a visiting researcher within EPRC.On 9 April 2008, she made a seminar presentation on the importance of the regional impact of non-regional policies for regional development.

Marie's presentation was based on her PhD research which explores the regional impact of public capital expenditure in the Czech Republic. The prime aim of the research has been to empirically demonstrate the huge discrepancy that there is between both the volume and regional pattern of public capital expenditure committed within national policies, on the one hand, and official regional policy, on the other. Significant policy implications arise from the results - for instance, that the development of territorial impact assessment (TIA) for sectoral policies is an inevitable challenge for both researchers and decision-makers.
