New journal article on the reform of Cohesion policy and its implications and options for Italy

18 February 2011

A new publication with title "Reflections on the reform of cohesion policy for the period 2014-2020: state of the debate and prospects for Italy" (in Italian), authored by Laura Polverari (EPRC) and Rosella Vitale (Italian Ministry of Economic Development) has just been published in SVIMEZ' Rivista Giuridica del Mezzogiorno (4/2010).

The article discusses the state of the debate in Italy and the first reactions to the themes outlined by the European Commission in its Fifth Cohesion Report, relating to the mission and role of the policy, its results-orientation and the planned simplification of management processes.

Drawing from interviews with regional and national officials and taking stock from past experience of Cohesion policy implementation in the country, the article concludes with reflections on the key challenges that need to be tackled not just to define a joint national position, but also to be 'ready' for the 1st of January 2014.
