EPRC at the RSA European Conference in Delft

22 May 2012

Professor David Charles presented a paper 'From technopoles to science cities: characteristics of a new phase of science cities' at the European Conference of the Regional Studies Association in Delft, on 15 May.

Presented as part of a session examining a 'new phase' of technopoles and policy reflections, David's presentation examined examples of 'third generation' science cities which are strategies to transform existing cities through investment in science and enhancing relationships between the science base and the wider population. A central focus was on the role of universities in these new strategic partnerships and the implications for the mission and nature of the university.

A second EPRC paper was presented by PhD student, Dorine Boumans 'Planning forward by looking back: Cohesion policy in Scotland' which explored the research questions and issues underlying recently started doctoral research on Cohesion policy implementation models in Scotland.
