Reflecting on the implementation of Cohesion policy in Europe

30 September 2012

The lessons and experiences of implementing Cohesion policy was the subject of a presentation by John Bachtler to an international conference'EU funds, European perspective - New challenges and opportunities' organised by the Croatian Chamber of Economy, and sponsored by WYG and ESEP in Zagreb on 18 September 2012.

The Conference was organised to engage policymakers, managers and officials from the public administration and from local and regional self government in an informed discussion of the challenges and opportunities for Croatia after it accedes to the EU in mid- 2013 and becomes eligible for EU Structural and Cohesion Funds.

Drawing on 25 years of EPRC research on Cohesion policy, John Bachtler's paper was entitled 'Reflections on the management and implementation of Cohesion Policy: What are the lessons?' and discussed how the implementation of Structural Funds has evolved over time and the performance of the EU10 Member States since their accession in 2004.
