How will Brexit affect EU Cohesion policy?

11 May 2017

Fiona Wishlade was a keynote speaker at the Lexxion European Structural and Investment Fund conference in Zagreb.

Fiona's presentation explored the implications of Brext for the future of the European Structural and Investment Funds. She focused first on the short to medium term budgetary issues before considering longer term financial issues to be resolved. She also noted that, on the basis of current data, Brexit will affect eligibility of some EU27 regions for Cohesion policy due to the impact of Brexit on EU GDP per head. Her presentation also considered the cooperation projects that the UK is involved in and observes that Brexit has considerable implications for UK regional development and policy. Her presentation is available here.
