New Publication: European Territorial Cooperation

24 August 2017

EPRC’s Irene McMaster and Heidi Vironen have edited a special edition of the European Structural and Investment Funds Journal. The special issue focuses on European Territorial Cooperation (ETC).

The articles featured provide a timely contribution to the post-2020 Cohesion policy debate on themes such as the added value of INTERREG to cross-border cooperation, the impact of cross-border cooperation programmes through cross-border networks, the role and position of macro-region strategies, and the involvement of non-EU Member States in future cooperation arrangements. In addition, there are two articles on transnational cooperation in the context of rural development and LEADER.

Within the edition, an article by McMaster and Vironen focuses on the involvement of non-EU Member States in European territorial Cooperation Programmes. In the context of forthcoming Cohesion policy reform and Brexit, this article focuses on the role of non-EU Member States in ETC, specifically INTERREG, examining the basis of their involvement, what participating countries ‘get out of it,’ and how this may change in the future.
