EPRC’s Ph.D. student Sylwia Borkowska-Waszak participated in the 3rd International Conference on Public Policy held in Singapore on 27-30 June. The conference took place at the National University of Singapore (NUS), ranked 1st in the Times Higher Education’s Asia-Pacific University Ranking 2017.
Having won travel grants offered by the University of Strathclyde and the National University of Singapore, Sylwia could fully participate in the conference programme. This involved presenting a research paper, undertaking a course ‘Political Process of Policymaking’ with Professor Philippe Zittoun, and discussing her PhD research in the Pre-Conference dedicated to PhD students.
The paper (available online here) explores ways for innovation in policy-making: ‘The craft of policy labs: an overview of methods applied for development and testing of policy solutions’.
Sylwia prepared and presented it together with Karol Olejniczak (EUROREG, Warsaw University), Anna Domaradzka-Widła (ISS, Warsaw University), and Yaerin Park (TSPPPA, George Washington University).
The presentation was followed by an enthusiastic, yet critical discussion on policy labs’ added value in creating innovative, evidence-based and human-centred public policies.
