Tokyo symposium on engaged universities

15 November 2013

David Charles was invited to Japan to give a presentation on 'The Engaged University and Regional Development in the UK' to a symposium organised by the national Institute of Science and Technology Policy in Tokyo on the 15th November. David's talk examined the nature of the engaged university and how UK policy had encouraged universities' involvement in regional development over the past decade.

The symposium also involved Prof Markku Sotarauta from the University of Tampere, Prof Martin Kenney from University of California Davis, Suzuka Sakashita of NISTEP and Prof Sadafumi Nakatake of Kagoshima University. It was attended by around 80 delegates from Japanese universities and government ministries.
