EPRC participation in Spatial Policy Workshops

01 January 2004

EPRC was well represented at the recent European Consortium for Political Research Joint Sessions of Workshops held in Uppsala on 13-18 April 2004. Laura Polverari and Irene McMaster participated in the 'European Spatial Politics or Spatial Policy for Europe?' Workshop with Laura presenting a paper entitled 'European Regional Policy and Territorial Cohesion: Economic and Social Cohesion Across Space or Balanced Territorial Development?'.

The paper analyses the coherence of European regional policy with the aim of territorial cohesion. It argues that to date the Structural Funds have contributed to the delivery of increased territorial cohesion and highlights some critical considerations in relation to the future role of European regional policy in the context of an enlarged Union. Irene McMaster's paper charted the development and implementation of 'Spatial Development Policy in Ireland'.
