24 November 2014

John Bachtler was an invited speaker at the 10th International Evaluation Conference on the"Utilization of Evaluation Results" organised by the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure and Development in Warsaw on 20-21 November 2014.

He spoke in a session devoted to the question "How can we make better use of socio-economic research by international organisations to improve the implementation of public policies?". John's contribution focused on the role of the European Commission (DG Regio) in the evaluation of Cohesion policy, focusing on the evolution of Commission evaluation over time, the different uses of its evaluation (legitimation, strategic, informational, instrumental and conceptual) and the scope for improving use by politicians, the media and academia.
