Welcome to Martin Hughes, Visiting Professor at EPRC!

04 April 2011

EPRC is delighted that Martin Hughes has been appointed as Visiting Professor in the Centre, working on policies for entrepreneurial finance in Europe. Martin was formerly Senior Director in Scottish Enterprise with responsibility for Capital Investment. He is an internationally respected public policy strategist in risk and venture finance. He has some 30 years' experience as an economic development professional, comprising a range of positions at local, national and international levels and combining a broad mix of policy, strategy and management skills and expertise. At Scottish Enterprise, he played a leading role in the re-design and re-development of the Scottish Enterprise investment function and related activities, specifically, the creation of a new suite of investments funds (including the Scottish Co-Investment Fund), securing the capital necessary for the funds and recruitment, and coaching and mentoring of appropriately qualified staff to manage and operate the funds. In EPRC, Martin will play a leading role in developing the 'European Entrepreneurial Finance Policy Project', encompassing a series of inter-disciplinary research and knowledge-exchange activities on the role of new financial instruments in national and European policies, the creation of innovative early stage risk capital policy interventions and general operations within the venture, private equity, public markets and corporate finance markets.
