Welcome to Visiting Professor, Dr Dirk Ahner!

EPRC is delighted to announce that Dr Dirk Ahner has been appointed as a Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde to work with EPRC on their research and knowledge exchange activities in the field of EU Cohesion policy.

Dr Ahner was Director-General of the DG for Regional Policy in the European Commission from 2007 to 2011, playing a lead role in developing the proposals for reforming EU Cohesion policy for 2014-2020. Prior to that, his 30-year service in the European Commission included a range of posts in DG Agriculture and the Secretariat General of the Commission.

Dr Ahner continues to be a Special Advisor to the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural development (on regional and rural development) and is a member of the advisory boards of the Association of European Border Regions, the Institute for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, and the RISE Foundation (for rural development).
