EPRC postgraduates, Sylwia Borkowska-Waszak and Margaret Coughtrie, were among 30 PhD students and early career researchers participating in the 2016 EWRC University Master Class held in Brussels on 9-13 October. Having won places on the course after a Europe-wide competition, the course involved four full days of research-policy exchange events. The Masterclass participants discussed their areas of study with EU officials and Cohesion Policy practitioners from national, regional and local levels.

Sylwia presented her PhD research on ‘The purple zone of EU Cohesion Policy implementation in Central Eastern Europe: the case of Poland’. Margaret spoke about her PhD on ‘The use of financial instruments (FI) in EU Cohesion Policy: the Scottish Co-Investment Fund, a glimpse at a veteran early stage equity supplier’.
