Wilbert den Hoed works a Research Associate at EPRC. He holds a PhD in Human Geography from Newcastle University (2018), where he studied mobility and urban living among ageing populations. Wilbert has further research interests in urban and regional issues, population ageing, and transportation. He has experience in quantitative, qualitative (video), and spatial analysis. Other qualifications include an MSc and BSc in Human Geography and Planning at Utrecht University, the Netherlands.

Over the last years, Wilbert gained research experience in Urban and Transport Geography, Geographies of Ageing, GIS, Mobilities and Tourism. He has teaching experience in research methods at various Geography modules at Newcastle University. In 2014-2017, he was a member of the EPSRC-funded MyPlace project that studied Newcastle as an Age-Friendly City. During his Master's degree, Wilbert examined tourism mobilities among professional visitors in Barcelona, Spain, where he lived and worked for one year. He published his Master’s and PhD research in academic articles and presented at a range of academic and professional conferences.

Wilbert is fluent in Dutch, English and Spanish.

Horizon2020 project TRACER delivers results

EPRC is a partner in the Horizon2020 project TRACER, which supports nine coal-intensive regions to transition to sustainable energy systems. In the last year, it has delivered substantial results, while consultations and dialogues in the regions are ongoing.
