Stephen Miller, Researcher at the European Policies Research Centre, has contributed a paper to the inaugural issue of 'Regional Studies, Regional Science', the new open access journal from the Regional Studies Association.
The paper focusses on the strategic challenge faced by the new Strathclyde Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC), due to open in Glasgow later in 2014. By drawing upon the regional innovation system model as a normative reference, an ex-ante analysis is developed on the basis of three thematic areas - linkages, themes and services, and strategic capability - to consider how the TIC can optimally function in an innovation system with recognised structural weaknesses.
Conclusions reflect on the utility of the regional innovation systems model as a means of ex ante evaluation, and the functional challenges faced by contemporary Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs).
