Douglas Yuill made a presentation to a Seminar at Scotland House, Brussels on 27 October on the Future of Regional Aids which attracted an audience of 70 senior policymakers from 16 countries.
The seminar, which was coordinated on behalf of Scotland and Norway by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, was addressed by key State aid and regional aid specialists from the Commission, the Member States and Norway.
It was organised to provide an interchange on current thinking regarding the future of the Regional Aid Guidelines. The presentation by Douglas was entitled "Area Designation under the Regional Aid Guidelines: Past Experiences and Future Options". A paper prepared by Douglas Yuill and Fiona Wishlade under the same title was one of two papers distributed to participants prior to the meeting to provide the broad context for the meeting discussions.
