In the context of economic crisis, regional development policies are assuming increased importance in both EU and non-EU countries. As a non-EU country, Norway is following closely the responses of European regional policies. Against this background, Professor Douglas Yuill was invited by the Norwegian Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development to present recent regional policy thinking to an audience of government officials in Oslo on 5 February 2009.
Based on comparative EPRC research under the EoRPA programme (see here) Douglas discussed the latest developments in the design and implementation of national regional policies in different countries, the influence of EU Cohesion and Competition policies, and the lessons for Norway.
