Fiona Wishlade of EPRC was an invited speaker at a conference on tax cooperation, tax competition and the convergence of fiscal systems. The conference was held at the Law Faculty of Universidade Autonoma de Lisboa under the auspices of the AIDE (Association Internationale de Droit Economique).
The conference considered both specific instances of international tax competition, and the extent to which these were subject to legal challenge, and broad trends in the convergence of tax systems, especially in Europe.
Fiona Wishlade's presentation entitled 'Aides d’Etat fiscales à caractère régionale: La compétitivité internationale de la Zone franche de Madère' focused on the question of regional selectivity and involved an analysis of the implications of the European Commission's scrutiny of the Madeira Free Zone.
