EPRC calls for papers for special session on financial instruments
EPRC is organising a special session on 'Financial instruments, Cohesion policy and regional development' at the Regional Studies Association annual conference in Lugano, Switzerland in June 2018. Recent developments in EU Cohesion policy have emphasised the role that financial instruments (FIs) can play: FIs have been lauded for their potential to improve the quality, sustainability and efficiency of European Structural and Investment Fund implementation, but to what extent do these claims hold? Do purely domestic FIs have any lessons to offer Cohesion policy? What is the spatial dimension to financial instruments and what role can they play in reducing regional disparities? What are the limits to the role of FIs in delivering public policy? In this Special Conference Session we hope to draw together a range of academic and policy perspectives from different geographies and governance traditions.
