Dr Laura Polverari of EPRC will be a guest speaker at the European Committee of the Regions on 9 November 2016, at an event on “EU Cohesion Policy: Academic views on the way it is governed”
For about 40 years, EU Cohesion Policy has operated as the Union’s main investment policy addressing economic, social and territorial cohesion across different levels of government. The way it is governed at EU, national, regional and local level does not only impact significantly on regional development and labour market policies, institutional behaviour, policy learning and transfer, it also triggers continued research by economic, social and political scientists.
Upon the occasion of their recently published “Handbook on Cohesion Policy in the EU”, its editors, Professor Simona Piattoni (University of Trento) and Dr Laura Polverari, and chapter contributor Dr Justus Schönlau (European Committee of the Regions) will discuss the following questions with European Commission representative Peter Berkowitz:
- What are EU Cohesion Policy’s narratives and how have they changed over time?
- What are the theoretical approaches from which the policy can be assessed?
- What inter-institutional and multi-level dynamics does it elicit?
- What does this mean for the debate about its future?
Presentations by the speakers and the discussant will be followed by a debate with the audience and an informal reception.
