As part of the ongoing Horizon 2020-funded BioSTEP project, Sara Davies, Stephen Miller and Stefan Kah of EPRC were involved in delivering a series of successful workshops on future strategic directions for Scottish bio-based industries.
Over 19-20 October, workshops were held at the Glasgow Science Centre for stakeholders in three key Scottish bio-based sectors; whisky, forestry and mariculture. The workshops were organised by BioSTEP project partner Ecologic Institute. The workshops provided a valuable platform for discussion on key strategic challenges and future opportunities for these industries in the transition to a bio-based, circular economy.
The event also saw the delivery of a three-day exhibition – ‘Bioeconomy in Everyday Life’. Whether for food, clothing or consumer goods, in the kitchen or in the garage – many everyday products contain components made from renewable raw materials or are produced using bio-based procedures. The bioeconomy has made its way into everyone’s lives, but we generally remain unaware of it. The exhibition is a forum to demonstrate the relevance of modern bio-based technologies in daily life – for professionals as well as for the general public. The exhibition was led by BioSTEP partner BIOCOM.
