At a recent European Parliament hearing, organised by the EPP-ED, John Bachtler was one of six invited experts presenting their views on the future of EU Cohesion policy. The hearing, which took place on 8 November 2007, had the title 'A New Regional Policy: Innovative Ideas for the Post-2013 Reform' and focused on two key questions: how should the Union's cohesion policy adapt to new challenges and maximise its impact? and: what might be the new orientation for cohesion policy? John Bachtler's contribution examined the added value of Cohesion policy, drawing lessons from past experience, the scope for change, and ways to improve the policy focus and management of Cohesion policy.
