EPRC Seminar: Evaluation through Observation: The Small Projects Fund in the Polish-German Border Region

On Wednesday 13 May, EPRC hosted a seminar by Dr Katja Sarmiento-Mirwaldt, Lecturer at Department of Politics, History and the Brunel Law School at Brunel University London. The seminar reported on an independent evaluation of a financial instrument which seeks to promote cross-border networking in the Polish-German border region; the Small Projects Fund. Key findings conveyed were that, under certain conditions, the Small Project Funds can be a highly effective policy tool to promote cross-border networking. However, certain parameters of its implementation clash with the declared goals of the fund, sometimes limiting its effectiveness.
