On 29 February, EPRC hosted a seminar by Dr Elvira Uyarra from Manchester Business School. Elvira's presented some intermediate results of her research on the impact of public procurement on innovation. The study is based on a number of case studies conducted in the context of the ESRC funded Underpinn (Understanding public procurement of innovation) project, as well as on a survey of c. 800 suppliers to the central UK government, English local authorities and the English NHS. Early insights from the research highlight, for instance, capacity issues and the importance of early stage communication on both demand and supply sides.
