EPRC’s Professor John Bachtler and Dr Martin Ferry presented the findings of the Ex Post Evaluation of the European Union Solidarity Fund 2002-2016 alongside Professor Iain Begg (LSE) at the Evaluation of the EU Solidarity Fund workshop, at DG-REGIO on the 14th February 2019.
The workshop consisted of presentations from the EPRC evaluation team, Johannes Wachter (Policy Officer, DG-REGIO), the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Italian Civil Protection Department, which shared its experience and lessons learnt from the Emilia Romagna earthquake of 2012. The Workshop also provided an opportunity for delegates from different member states to discuss and reflect on their experiences with the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF).
The overall objective of the evaluation was to assess the implementation and performance of the EUSF over the period 2002-2016. It also involved an assessment of the synergies between EUSF support and other EU and international policy instruments in contributing to strengthened measures for the prevention and management of disasters in EU Member States.
