Organised by the ODPM and the UK ESPON Contact Point, the seminar started with an outline of UK interests in the Third Cohesion Report by Christabel Myers (ODPM) and was structured in two further sessions: the first on the changing map of Europe and the implications for the UK, and the second on the territorial impacts of EU policies. Irene's presentation dealt with the preliminary results from the project on the territorial impacts of pre-accession aid (ESPON 2.2.2) while Laura illustrated the preliminary outcomes of the project on the territorial effects of the Structural Funds (ESPON 2.2.1). Both presentations drew some considerations on the implications of the research findings for the UK. Other speakers included Prof. Cliff Hague and Karryn Kirk from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh (UK Espon Contact Point); Ranald Richardson (University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne), Elena Besussi (University College London), Prof. Roger Vickerman (University of Kent) and Dr. Deborah Roberts (University of Aberdeen).
